About Crystal's World of Dance

Crystal’s World of Dance is proud to collaborate with the City of
Lakeland and the Simpson Park Community Center. Crystal’s
World of Dance is a professional dance school that offers Ballet,
Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop and African Dance. Students learn the elements
of dance and how to develop control of their mind, body, and spirit.
Students are given the opportunity to be introduced to beginning,
intermediate and advanced techniques in jazz, ballet, tap, Hip Hop
and African dance. As well as, become familiar with appropriate
dance terminology; and use the elements of dance and other art
forms creatively. Each student will be introduced to the basic skills
of performing, stage presence and projection. Crystal's World of
Dance is the only dance school in Polk County that offers African
Dance Classes.

The Crystal's World of Dance parents committee was design to implement the mission of the dance
school, and advocate for Crystal's World of Dance in the Community. To assist new parents, and act
as a direct liaison between staff and parents. The parent's committee is made up of 8 parent
volunteer's who implement fund raisers, field trips,and  performances. The parent committee
members meet the third Thursday of every month at Simpson Park Community Center. For

Ash-Leah Smith is 25 years old, and currently resides in Bartow.  
Ash-Leah began dancing at age 4 at Mamie’s School of Dance.  
Ash-Leah has studied  dance for 13 years including ballet, jazz  tap,
clogging, lyrical, and hip hop.


After Ash-Leah graduated from the University of Central Florida in
2006, three years later she came back to Polk County, and  joined
CWOD, were she was re-introduced to tap and jazz, hip hop , and
lyrical. Ash -Leah is looking forward to teaching Tap this Fall.  
Shanelle Freeman began her dance training at age eleven. She is a graduate
of the Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School in Saint
Petersburg, Florida. After high school, Shanelle joined Florida Dance Theatre,
Polk County’s only professional dance company in Lakeland, Florida. There
she will begin her second season with the professional company this fall.

Shanelle has also performed works choreographed by Carol Erkes, Freddie
DeJesus, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Robert Battle, Patricia Paige-Parks,
Suzanne Pomerantzeff, Peter Kalivas, Sean Musselman, and Travis
Mesman.  

Shanelle has had the opportunity to teach and choreograph at The Academy
of Florida Dance Theatre, Crystal’s World of Dance, The Royal Theatre, The
Coleman-Bush Center, and for The Lakeland Housing Authority outreach
programs.
